The Cowboys traveled to Bear River HS to face the Bears in a key league affair for both teams. The game had a playoff atmosphere as both teams played hard and played well. Over the years Bear River has dominated Region 11 Baseball. Grantsville has had their share of success against the Bears but all of those wins have come in Grantsville. The Cowboys put an end to that streak today with a 3-0 victory to stay in first place in Region 11.
Grantsville got on the board in the fourth inning as Tyson Hutchins led off the inning with a single. Alex Childs sacrificed him to second. Kort Fonger got on with and infield single and moved Hutchins to third. Taylor Matthews lined a sharp single over the shortstop to give Grantsville a one run lead. Payeton Reed hit into a fielder's choice and moved Fonger to third. Andrew Nelson drove him in with a single to give the Cowboys a 2-run lead. The Cowboys tacked on an insurance run in the seventh as Nelson singled to lead off the inning. After a failed sacrifice, Jake Campbell hit a shot over the left fielder's head. Pinch runner, Bridger Boman scored from first base on the play as Campbell ended up at second with a double. Ryley Boman came up and singled to center, but Bear River cut Campbell down at the plate on a close play.
Alex Childs took the ball for the Cowboys and earned the win on the mound throwing a five-hitter and striking out six. He worked his way out of several jams on the day with the help of a solid defense. The competitor came out in him all day and then he dominated the seventh inning sitting the Bears down in order on 11 pitches.
The win keeps Grantsville in first place in Region 11, one game ahead of Logan & Morgan in the loss column. The Cowboys will look to win the region title outright when they travel to Logan to face the Grizzlies Tuesday at 3:30.

We are so proud of the kind of baseball you've played this year but more importantly than that, the kind of TEAM you've been. TRUE TEAM SPIRIT is what Cowboy Baseball has been all about in 2009!
Good Luck on Tuesday. We will all be there to cheer you on!
