Pizza Hut Classic Results

An interesting weekend in St George. The Cowboys played some pretty good baseball for 4-5 innings in each contest. Unfortunately baseball games are 7 inning affairs. Here's a rundown of the other games in St George.

NIGHT CAP FRIDAY
Bishop Manogue 12 Grantsville 1
Kelbey Fisher threw 4 good innings and kept Grantsville in the game against the powerhouse out of Reno. He got in some trouble in the 5th as the Miners kept the pressure on the Cowboys and built a 9-0 lead thru 5. Grantsville threatened to get on the board in the 3rd with a Bridger Boman walk and a Kort Fonger single to put runners on 1st & 3rd with 2 outs. Andrew Nelson hit a deep line drive into the left centerfield gap that was run down and caught by the Miners centerfielder. In the 4th a leadoff double by Jake Campbell went for naught as the Grantsville hitters failed to drive him in. The Cowboys scored their only run in the 6th on back to back singles by Jake Campbell and Taylor Matthews. Connor Turner singled in the lone run with 1 out but the inning ended on back to back strikeouts.

SATURDAY RESULTS
Wasatch 0 Grantsville 0
The Cowboys were involved in a pitchers duel with Wasatch until the 4th inning when the winds and hail took over at Elks Field. The umpires called for the tarps and the game was put on hold. Before the storm had passed the newly renovated playing surface had taken on too much moisture and become unplayable for the rest of the day. Thru 3 1/3 innings Dalen Erickson was in the midst of a no-hitter for the Cowboys recording 4 strikeouts and only allowing 1 baserunner on a hit batsman. Offensively Andrew Nelson had a double and Connor Turner recorded a single but neither would be brought around to score. A rematch with Wasatch will be set up at a later date.

Cedar 6 Grantsville 5
After some major field work at Flyer Field the Redmen and Cowboys hooked up to play a shortened 5 inning game. Cedar got on the board first in the bottom of the second to take a 1-0 lead. Grantsville answered back in the 3rd on a Tyson Hutchins towering double off the left centerfield wall, a Kort Fonger single, an Andrew Nelson rbi single and a Taylor Matthews sacrifice fly to give the Cowboys a 2-1 lead. Grantsville would add 2 more runs in the top of the 4th to take a 4-1 lead on a 2-run double by Fonger. Once again the Cowboys couldn't make the lead hold up as they took the loss 6-5 in extra innings. Kellan Rhoades got the start on the hill and had a good outing on the mound for the Cowboys.
