The Cowboys took on the 2 time Class 4A runner up in the first game of the Donnie Pimm Pizza Hut Classic. Grantsville played well but couldn't close out the game and let it get away from them in the end. The Cowboys took a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the sixth when 2 walks 2 hit batters and 5 singles turned into a 7-run inning as Grantsville dropped the game to Dixie 8-2.
Grantsville got on the scoreboard first in the top of the first as Tyson Hutchins singled. He moved up a base on a Kort Fonger ground out and then to third on a wild pitch. He scored on a ground out by Andrew Nelson to give the Cowboys a 1-0 lead.
With the game tied at 1-1, Andrew Nelson led off the fourth with a single. Jake Campbell followed that with a single to put runners on first and second. Taylor Matthews laid down a sacrifice bunt to move both runners up a base. Kelbey Fisher then scored speed up runner Derek Jensen with an infield single to give the Cowboys a 2-1 lead.
Andrew Nelson was masterful on the hill until getting in trouble in the 6th. Kellan Rhoades came in and got Grantsville out of the inning.
