Grantsville drops Maple Mountain 8-4

The Cowboys traveled to Utah Valley up Highway 6 to take on the Maple Mountain Golden Eagles. In cold & windy conditions Grantsville took down the first year school 8-4.

Kort Fonger got the start on the hill and went 4 innings allowing 2 runs striking out 5 to pick up the win. Kelbey Fisher came in and closed out the final 3 innings to pick up the save.

Grantsville was led offensively by Lincoln Kelley who hit a towering home run over the left field wall in the fourth and had a two out rbi triple in the 5th. He later scored on a wild pitch. The Cowboys got on the board in the second using a Taylor Matthews double and a Connor Turner single to score speed up runner Derek Jensen. Kellan Rhoades singled to move Turner into scoring position and then Tyson Hutchins drove him in with an rbi single. to give Grantsville the lead. In the third Fisher drove in Andrew Nelson with an rbi single. Jensen scored the final Cowboy run in the sixth inning running for Matthews who had moved up to third base during a run down.

The Cowboys are back in action at home tomorrow against the Woods Cross Wildcats. WX is picked to win Region 6, so come on out to the ball park and watch the Cowboys take on another quality opponent. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30.
