After a very long wait the Cowboys finally got to take the field against Carbon. After a rocky start Kort Fonger settled down and gave Grantsville 4 strong innings on the mound. TJ Sieh threw 1 shut out inning in relief and Benji Cole came on to pick up the win as Grantsville was able to come back from a 6-0 deficit. The Cowboys got on the board in the 5th as Andrew Nelson single and came around to score on a Ryley Boman single and Jake Clonts scored on a wild pitch. The bats erupted in the 6th inning keyed by an RBI's single by Jake Campbell. Kort Fonger had a big 2-run single that gave the Cowboys their first lead of the game 7-6. Andrew Nelson scorched a 2-run double down the left field line in what turned out to be the game winning RBI. Due to a city ordinance, tournament officials cut the game down to 6 innings. It took some convincing and, fortunately for us, officials allowed the 2 teams to finish the 6th inning with the game ending well after midnight.
In what turned out to be an interesting day/night doubleheader, with the win Grantsville ended up placing fifth in the tournament with a 2-2 record. Benji Cole and Ryley Boman were voted to the All-Tournament team for their 2-day performance.
Hopefully, all our followers can return home safely as we head back to the cool weather. We face a big week coming up with 4 more games scheduled, all against 4A & 5A schools. Come on out to the ballpark and help the Cowboys rise to the challenge.
