Cowboys Go Deep on Trojans 9-6

Grantsville went deep 3 times against arch rival Morgan to down the Trojans 9-6. The win keeps the Cowboys in the hunt for a Region 11 championship with a 5-1 league record, a game behind Juan Diego.

Kort Fonger got the long ball started for the Cowboys in the top of the first with a solo shot to spot Grantsville a 1-0 lead. Morgan chipped away to take a 4-1 lead when Andrew Nelson hit the big blast of the day with a 3-run shot to tie the game at 4 in the 5th inning. Grantsville was able to put up 4 more runs in the top of the sixth to take an 8-4 lead. Morgan scored 1 run in their half of the sixth to cut the lead to 8-5. Taylor Matthews made sure the Cowboys got the run back with a deep shot to centerfield to give Grantsville a 9-5 lead going into the bottom of the seventh. The Trojans put up one run in the inning and had the bases loaded but a couple strikeouts ended the game.

Grantsville will be back in action on Thursday at Ben Lomond HS and then again on Friday at Juan Diego. The scheduled start time for both games is 3:30. Come on out and enjoy some baseball as the Cowboys try to defend their Region 11 title.
