Morgan came to town on Wednesday and left disappointed with a 5-2 defeat at the hand of the Cowboys. With the win Grantsville remains tied for 1st and improves to 2-0 in Region 11 play.
The Cowboys jumped on Morgan in the bottom of the first. Lincoln Kelley hit a leadoff double. Tyson Hutchins was then hit by a pitch (intentional?). Andrew Nelson then ripped a 2-run double. Speed up runner Derek Jensen moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a Taylor Matthews sacrifice fly to spot Grantsville a 3-0 lead.
After Morgan cut the lead to 3-2, the Cowboys put up 2 insurance runs in the sixth. Nelson drew a lead off walk. Jensen then stole second and scored on a Kort Fonger RBI double. Fonger then scored on a Connor Turner two out single to provide the winning margin.
Nelson got the start against the league rival. He went 6 strong innings and then turned it over to closer Kellan Rhoades. Rhoades slammed the door shut on the Trojans with a 1, 2, 3 seventh inning to earn the save.
The Cowboys will take a break from league play as they host Delta on Thursday in a rematch of a disappointing playoff loss from a year ago. Come on out to Cowboy Field and cheer on your Cowboys. First pitch is set for 3:30 (not a minute before but don't be afraid to be early). They will continue with league play on Friday as they host Bear River in another key Region 11 game.
