Cowboys Season Ends With 2 Losses

Grantsville played gracious hosts as we dropped two games to end our season, 4-2 to Delta & 7-6 to Emery in 9-innings.

In the first game Delta took advantage of 3 Grantsville errors and turned them into 3 unearned runs as they held on for a 4-2 win. Alex Childs went the distance for the Cowboys and recorded 13 strikeouts while allowing 4 walks and 1 earned run. In the fifth inning Grantsville but together a rally, but had one runner thrown out at the plate and left, at that time, the tying runs on 2nd & 3rd. Trailing 4-0 in the sixth the Cowboys put together a rally to cut the deficit to 4-2. Ryley Boman led off the inning with a triple and trotted home as the throw to third sailed over the fence. Tyson Hutchins followed that up by hitting a towering home run over the left field fence. The Cowboys would get one more runner on in the inning but the Rabbits worked their way out of the jam. Grantsville got one on in the seventh with 2 outs but the game ended on a pop up down the right field line as the right fielder made the catch as he collided with the second baseman.

In game 2 Emery jumped on Grantsville with 3 runs in the first inning. The Cowboys fought back in the third to take a 4-3 lead. Jake Clonts reached on a wild pitch, Jake Campbell walked. Both runners moved up on a wild pitch. Clonts scored on a Ryley Boman infield single. Tyson Hutchins then hit a 3-run home run to give Grantsville their first lead of the day. Grantsville would tack on 2 more runs in the fifth on Kort Fonger's 2-run blast to take a 6-3 lead into the sixth. Benji Cole did a great job on the mound all day long and had the Cowboys within 1 out of victory when an error, a double, another error, and three consecutive singles allowed the Spartans to tie the game 6-6. Emery parlayed a single, a sacrifice and a two out single into a 7-6 lead in the top of the ninth. The Cowboys were able to get two runners on with 2 outs in the bottom of the ninth, but couldn't get the hit they needed as they bow out of the tournament in disappointing fashion. Benji Cole went all nine innings on the mound and recorded 9 strikeouts, walked 1, allowed 10 hits, and 2 earned runs.

The two loses end the baseball careers at GHS for Ryley Boman, Benji Cole, Alex Childs, TJ Sieh, and Jake Clonts.

I would like to thank all our fans for all their support and the players for the time and effort they put into this season. As disappointed as we are today, we still had a good year and hopefully down the road we can look back on it with fond memories. Hopefully everyone can be proud to be a member of the Cowboys Baseball Family.

FYI: Uniform turn in will be Wednesday May 13th at 4 pm at the field, please have everything washed. A meeting for players and parents concerning summer ball will be held on Tuesday May 19th at 7:30 at the field.
