Cowboys MGP with thrilling win over Juan Diego

In what amounted to a playoff game for the Cowboys, they came from behind twice to take a 7-6 win over the 2-time defending state champion Juan Diego Soaring Eagles.

After falling behind 3-0, Grantsville rallied back in the 4th to post 4 runs and take a 4-3 lead. Kelby Landon led off the inning with a single. Drew Sutton was hit by a pitch to put 2 on for the Cowboys. Kelbey Fisher came up with an RBI single to get the Cowboys on the board. Sutton was able to score on a wild pitch to cut the lead to 3-2. Bridger Boman drew a walk to start another rally bringing Lincoln Kelley to the plate. After a pitching change, Kelley unloaded the first big blast for Grantsville with a towering 2-run HR to left field.

Juan Diego came back to take a 6-4 lead. Grantsville answered back with 1 run in the 5th to cut the lead to 6-5. Sklyer Cloward singled and moved up on a Juan Diego error. He was able to score on a ground out by Landon.

After holding the Eagles scoreless in the 6th the Cowboys were back at it. Boman started the rally with a double down the leftfield line. He scored to tie the game on a Kelley single. Kelley moved up to second on the throw. After another pitching change Andrew Nelson hit the 2nd big blast for the Cowboys by lacing the 2nd pitch to the RC gap scoring Kelley to give the Cowboys a 7-6 lead going into the 7th.

Grantsville was 3 outs away but the Eagles were able to load the bases with 1 out. Nelson induced a pop out to record the 2nd out. The next Juan Diego hitter was able to run the count to 3-2. With the game on the line and the runners on the move, Nelson threw a fastball on the outside corner to record the final out of the game in thrilling fashion to give the Cowboys a huge 7-6 victory.

Grantsville will now sit back and await the outcome of other league teams to see if they get the chance to take the field again. This game was tribute day to the Seniors on this year's team. It marked the final home game for Andrew Nelson, Lincoln Kelley, Bridger Boman, Kelbey Fisher, & Jason Arbon.

Cowboys, great job today. Seniors, what a way to go out on your home field. Hopefully you can get a little help from Bear River. Congrats!
