Grantsville pulled off a 7th inning rally to take a come from behind victory over Manti 8-7. Their luck ran out against Desert Hills as they fell 10-0 to split games in the first 2 rounds of the state tournament. Next up will be Delta at Copper Hills HS at 1:30 on Thursday May 13.
Grantsville 8 Manti 7
In the first game of the day the Cowboys came from behind twice to earn a victory over the Templars. The Cowboys were led offensively by Tyson Hutchins with 3 hits, Kellan Rhoades with 2 hits and Connor Turner with 2 hits including the game winner in the bottom of the seventh to score Kort Fonger with the winning run with 2 outs.
Andrew Nelson went 5 innings on the hill and Kellan Rhoades came in to go the last 2 and picked up the win.
Desert Hills 10 Grantsville 0
Some poor defense and lack of offense led to a thumping by Desert Hills in the second game. Everything the Cowboys hit hard seemed to be right at a Thunder fielder and the Cowboys committed 6 errors that all led to runs and a 10-0 loss that sends the Cowboys into the losers bracket next week. Kort Fonger threw well but didn't get enough help defensively and took the loss. Tyson Hutchins, Fonger, and Jake Campbell had the only 3 hits during the contest for the Cowboys.
Grantsville will be back in action on Thursday at 1:30 at Copper Hills HS. With a win they will play the Canyon View/Morgan winner at 7pm at Gates Field in Kearns.
