The 2014 Cowboys are Off!!!

After a season opening loss to the Park City Miners the Cowboys travelled south to participate in the Tiger/Panther Classic.

The opening day game got off to a rousing start as Jake "Big Papi" Ortiz threw out the first pitch and then had a special surprise for his new fiancee, Nicole McCluskey. Unfortunately the Cowboys weren't as lucky as the Miners handed them a convincing loss 12-2.

In the trip down south Day 1 proved to be a good day in the sun for the Cowboys as they were able to pick up a pair of victory's.

In game 1 Grantsville dropped Pine View 4-3. The Cowboys were led by Wyatt Barrus as he picked up the win on the mound and drove in 3 runs with a single and a double.

In game 2 Grantsville came back from a 4 run deficit to down Union 7-5. Dillon Hutchins picked up the win on the bump as well as going 3 for 3 at the plate to lead the Cowboys to the win.

Next up will be a match up against the Delta Rabbits at 9:00 AM Saturday morning.

Day 2 of the tournament started right where day 1 left off.

In the first game vs Delta Clay Matthews dominated the Rabbit hitters picking up the win 9-0. Clay threw a complete game allowing 4 hits while striking out 5.

Ky Fisher and Dillon Hutchins led the way offensively with 3 hits each as Nick Arbon tacked on 2 safeties.

In the semifinals and the 2nd game of the day the Cowboys took down co-host Hurricane 17-7 in 5 innings. Trailing 7-6 entering their half of the 5th Grantsville exploded for 11 runs to end the game on the mercy rule. Every player in the line up recorded a hit and scored a run for the Cowboys highlighted by Ky Fisher's towering Home Run. The win propelled the Cowboys into the Championship game.

In the title game Grantsville took a 4-2 lead into the 4th inning vs Pine View but struggled to get out of the 4th inning and ended up falling to the host Panthers 12-4 to finish 2nd.

Congratulations go out to our own Wyatt Barrus who was named the tournament MVP.

Next up will be a Saturday doubleheader at Davis HS as the Cowboys take on the Davis Darts at 11:00 followed by a match up vs Westlake.
