In the prime time 8 pm game at the American Legion State Tournament, Grantsville lost a wild one to the top seeded team from Helper 20-17.
The Cowboys put up 8 runs in the top of the 1st but couldn't old down Helper in the bottom half of the inning as they scored 7 runs. As the fireworks started going off around the valley, Grantsville continued with their own show as they came right back with 6 more runs in the 2nd. Helper had a big 10 run 4th, aided by several Grantsville miscues, to take a 16-14 lead. Grantsville took the lead back in the 5th with 3 runs but once again couldn't keep Helper off the scoreboard as they scored 4 more runs to complete the scoring.
It was a valiant effort but too many defensive miscues were too much to overcome. The Cowboys stayed red hot at the plate & came up with 15 hits on the night including 7 extra base hits. Lincoln Kelley (2 singles, 1 double), Tyson Hutchins (single, double, triple), & Connor Turner (2 singles, double) rapped out 3 hits each in the contest & Kelby Landon (double, triple) chipped in with 2 hits. Andrew Nelson had a double and was credited with 4 rbi's. Skyler Cloward, Chris Buckner, & Drew Sutton had one hit each for Grantsville as well.
Grantsville will take on cross county rival Stansbury on Monday July 26 at 1:00 at Oquirrh Park in Kearns. Come on out and support the Cowboys as they try to continue the fireworks show in the daylight.
